Culture Editor

Post by basel » Mon Mar 10, 2014 10:36 am

Hello everyone,
I am working on a idea of software that can help to make custom cultures.
It will help to create and edit the buildings, the namelists, the shops, the villagers, etc...

The idea is to provide a top view of a culture and manage the relations between the differents items.

This time, I learned my lesson, I tried to make a agnostic platform tool.

So, do you have some comments, thoughts, suggestions about it?

Here a pic:

This wouldn't have a building editor/creator, would it? Well, even if it doesn't, I'd totally use it if it could change what buildings could be used in a village. All my Norman villages want to build LordDamien's stuff like the Keep and various farm buildings.

Also, that UI looks nice, uncluttered and easy to navigate. Is it a mock-up or do you actually have some of it done?

As you can see in the interface, there is a part in the left called 'buildings'.
At term, it will allow you to create and edit buildings.
I will use my knowledges learned with 'Cadastre' development to make to a new version of it.

The UI is a first draft but it is already using real data. There is already the behind 'gear' to browse the fodler and files.

Nice work, Basel!

The most complex (and bug-causing) thing is creating custom villagers, especially assigning skins. I'd love a function where you could easily choose a skin.png file and Civibuilder would copy/paste it in the folder.

Further functions that would make Creators' lives easier is a quest creator and a custom goal creator.

keep it up!

Ticlon brought up the custom goal thing and I realized lots of good things could come of this. Felinoel could finish his Inuit tribe culture with this editor.

lol right now I am really waiting on my modder to find the time to figure out how to import a special entity so I can have a fish carving block.
Once he does that I plan to fully release the Inuits and then release later updates for things like quests and whatnot.

As for on topic a couple years back there was someone who made a building editor, it was no where near as complex as this though lol

This sounds like a great plan; however; I wouldn't worry about the buildings too much, minecraft in combination with photoshop or similar offer a pretty decent way to export, apart from several bugs...

Look forward to a working version!!!
